Lord, Help Me Make It Through Today!
Sometimes, the bravest prayer we can pray is: “Lord, help me make it through this day!” Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not this year. Not the next season of my life. Just today! It is biblical to pray for help for the current day. Jesus said, “Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6.34). Jesus wants us to focus on living one day at a time. Think about Israel in the wilderness. God gave them manna one day at a time. If they tried to store it up, it spoiled. Why? Because God wanted them to learn obedience and the rhythm of daily dependence. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, one thing Jesus said we were to pray was: “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6.11). We are to seek God’s blessings daily and to give thanks always.
