Just Can’t Get Ahead?
How often have you felt that it didn’t matter how hard you worked, you just could not get ahead? Or every time you begin to make progress, it seems like one step forward means two steps back? There are times in our lives when no matter how hard we try, it feels like we are running in place. More and more bills come in, our relationships strain, and our spirit darkens. Isn’t it easy to feel defeated? You look for a light at the end of the tunnel but do not see one. So, you sit alone in total darkness with a downcast heart. You even question: “Has God forsaken me?”
Have you ever thought that your situation could be your time in the wilderness? Israel was destined to wander forty years in the wilderness after leaving Egypt. It wasn’t just punishment for failing to trust in God; but it was a time of growth. Israel had to learn to trust God for all their needs. Manna from heaven, water from rocks—God continually met their needs—but only one day at a time. Can we learn to take life one day at a time? We can become depressed and think everything is going down the drain, but who knows what tomorrow will bring? Can we stop worrying and learn to trust in God?
Your time in darkness could also be a time of growth. When seeds are planted in the ground, they sit in total darkness, buried beneath the earth, seemingly all alone. But what is really occurring? Transformation is taking place. The seed is preparing to sprout to produce a beautiful plant. Our ho
urs, days, and months of darkness may feel like we are buried with burdens too heavy to bear; but are we really being transformed to serve God more faithfully in the future? Is God preparing us for something better?
When will we learn that we cannot regulate everything going on
around us?
When will we learn to put our faith and trust in God?When will we learn that God is in control and will take care of us regardless of what we face? Jesus said our focus in life should be to “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6.33). “All these things” mean everything necessary to sustain your life God will provide. Let us stop being overly concerned about the things in our life that are out of our control, but rest assured that God will take care of us. Will you let God take care of you?
