Are You Looking For More?
Have you ever wanted more? More time? More money? More out of life? I think everyone can say, “Yes, I have looked for more.” Why are we constantly looking for things to improve our lives? Is it because we want our lives to be better, easier, less complicated? I find it interesting that in John 7.37, Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts….” Jesus is asking for people who realize that they are not satisfied by this life and are looking for more to come to Him. They had tried to be fulfilled by sin and everything the world had to offer but were still thirsting. Jesus stood up on the last day of the feast and cried, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” Jesus is calling out to people who have looked for joy and satisfaction in this life but have not found it.
Before you came to Jesus, were you satisfied with life? Did living in sin cause you heartache? Were you still looking for something to fulfill you? Many people search and search for something to bring them joy and inward peace. Even after trying many avenues of living in the world, they still have not found anything to fulfill them. That is because the only thing that will satisfy man’s inner longing for fulfillment in life is God Himself. On another occasion, Jesus cried out, “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11.28). In context, Jesus is calling for all the Jews who were heavily burdened trying to fulfill the ceremonial laws and the traditions of the elders to come to Him and learn of a new way of salvation. Albert Barnes said that Jesus was calling “the poor, lost, ruined sinner; the man burdened with a consciousness of his transgressions, trembling at his danger, and seeking deliverance. For such there is relief. Christ tells them to come to Him, to believe in Him, and to trust Him, and Him only, for salvation. Doing this He will give them rest–rest from their sins; from the alarms of conscience; from the terrors of the law; and from the fears of eternal death.”
Are you tired of life? Looking for something to make your life better? Just wanting to feel good about yourself? The answer is Jesus. Only Jesus can make you whole. Looking back at John 3.37, Jesus said, “If anyone thirst, let him come to Me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’.” Do you see another promise? Not only will you find peace in your life, but if you drink of the living water, you will become fountains of blessings to others, as well! There are many other people who are searching for happiness, searching for fulfillment, searching for meaning. You can be the one who leads them to Jesus. Will you help them find more? Gary
