Give Me Strength
Have you ever had such a difficult day that you asked God to give you strength? Many people suffer hardships and trials in their lives that could have been easier to endure if they had turned to God for help. Do you remember Samson (Judges 13-16)? God called him to be one of the judges of Israel. Samson’s job was to deliver Israel out from under the oppressive forty-year rule of the Philistines. Samson’s whole account seems to be one of failures. He disobeyed God’s laws at every turn. It was not until his death that he actually sought God’s help. After being blinded and made a spectacle for the Philistines to enjoy, Samson finally turned to God. Samson said, “O LORD GOD, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes” (Judges 16.28). God answered Samson’s request and restored his strength by which he destroyed the stadium of the Philistines, pushing its two main support beams apart making it collapse. The stadium fell, and we read, “So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those he had killed during his life” (Judges 16.30).
