Giving Ourselves to the Lord
The apostle Paul wrote to the Christians at Corinth about how generously the Macedonian churches had given to help the poor saints in Jerusalem. He pointed out how liberally they gave even though they lived in great poverty. Going on to explain and complement the Macedonians, Paul said the reason they were able to give so freely was because they “first gave themselves to the Lord” (2 Corinthians 8.5). The reason the Macedonian Christians gave so abundantly was because they had totally consecrated themselves and all that they had to the Lord.
