Does Lying Really Matter?
The American society has become so shameless that acts the Bible considers sinful are not given a second thought today. For example, Paul wrote to the Christians in Ephesus, “Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,’ for we are members of one another” (Ephesians 4.25, NKJV). But, a recent survey states that the average person tells two lies per day, or approximately 730 lies per year. The report says some of the most common lies that one tells are lies “to save face,” “to shift blame,” “to avoid confrontation,” “to get one’s own way,” “to be nice,” and “to make oneself feel better.” Thus, most lies are not meant to be hurtful to others; rather, they are meant to help the one doing the lying.
