Do I Possess Courage?
Courage in the Bible is defined as: “to be bold,” “strong,” “to fasten upon, hence, to seize.” Over and over, God told Joshua “to be strong and couragous” (Joshua 1.6, 7, 9, 18). Joshua was to seize every opportunity to fulfill the will of God. He was to go in and take the promise land with boldness and without fear because God was with him. Imagine trying to enter a nation and take possession of it. Every battle would be “Are we strong enough to take this city?” You would constantly be counting your soldiers and the available weapons and ammunition. Strategy and planning sessions would be held around the clock. Well, God told Joshua that he would be with him and to enter the promise land with great courage and no fear. Basically, do not worry about it, I am with you. Just knowing that God was with him gave Joshua bravery to lead Israel into the land “flowing with milk and honey.” Would it not be wonderful today if every member of the Lord’s church was just as courageous?
