The Joy of Giving
Is it possible to find joy in giving? More people would prefer to receive than give. But didn’t Jesus say, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20.35). Why would that be so? When Jesus says our giving is more blessed, He’s telling us that there is more happiness or joy to be found in God when we give, rather than when we receive. During the days of Moses, the children of Israel were asked to donate the materials for the building of the Tabernacle. The materials needed were not cheap by any means: gold, silver, brass, fine linens, animal skins dyed red, oil, spices, shittim wood, and precious stones. The people were excited and filled with tremendous joy for being able to give to the work of the Lord. So much so, that Moses had to ask the people to stop giving (Exodus 36.5, 6).
