A Fresh Start
Have you ever wished you could go back in time and undo certain bad choices you made in life? Often, we might wonder how different life would be if we had chosen more wisely. If you are in a bad marriage, you may constantly look back and wished you had married someone else. Or maybe if you had never smoked the first joint that led you to a life of drugs. Others think, “If I had just known better.” Do you think the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4), ever imagined having five husbands then ending up shacking up with another man? Do you think each time the woman married that she thought, “Finally, someone who will love me!”? Isn’t it amazing what people will do and endure while searching for someone just to love them? Many people’s lives have turned out totally different than they anticipated. By this point in her life, the Samaritan woman probably thought life was hopeless—until she met Jesus. When she learned that Jesus was the promised Messiah, she returned to her village proclaiming the good news. Many people of that village were led to believe in Him because of the change they saw in her. She was given a fresh start in life because of her coming to believe in Christ. Do you need a fresh start? Today is the first day of a new year. Many people will be making New Year resolutions of things they hope to achieve or change in the coming year. Have your considered making a resolution to grow closer to Jesus this year? You can receive a fresh start in life. You can know what it feels lik to “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice” (Philippians 4.4). Life “in Christ” is like no other. It will bring hope and joy where there was despair and gloom. Being “in Christ” will even save your soul. Do you need a fresh start with Jesus today?
