How Good Is Your Lawyer?
If you have broken the law and as a result, your case is going be tried in court; isn’t it important to have a good lawyer? It is amazing how great lawyers can get someone’s crime reduced down to a mere slap on the wrist; whereas you may wind up in prison for years if your lawyer is incompetent. We want the absolute best to be by our side in our defense. Well question: “Is sin against God an even greater violation than breaking the laws of the land?” If you had to appear before God as your judge, who would you want to defend you? In the first epistle of John, John writes, “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (I John 2.1). As “little children,” an affectionate term John used for fellow Christians, we have our Lord Himself to come to our defense. The Greek term, parakletos, literally means “to call to one’s side; attorney.” There is no greater defense lawyer we could ever find than the Son of God Himself. Jesus, in addition to being deity, is highly qualified because He lived on earth, endured many temptations without sin, and experienced life as we do.
