God Is Working
Have you ever wondered if God is actually working in your life? Or does God really notice you and is He concerned with that through which you are going? One of the passages of scripture that often helps me the most when things are difficult or uncertain is where Paul says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8.28) I can know that regardless of the things in which I rejoice or suffer, it will work out for my best. But what is the verse actually saying? First, the verse teaches that God is working in our lives. The New American Standard Bible translates the beginning of the verse, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good….” Next, the verse teaches that God will take everything that occurs in our daily lives, whether good or bad, and make them to turn out for our ultimate good. Finally, God is only doing this for faithful Christians. The text says it is “for those who love God… and for those who are called according to His purpose.” The scriptures teach that Jesus calls us to come unto Him (Matthew 11.28-30). Paul says we are called today through the gospel of Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 2.14). God’s eternal purpose was to send Jesus to seek and save the lost (Luke 19.10).
