Am I Abiding In Christ?
Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15.5). What does it mean to “abide in Christ?” The Greek word translated “abide” literally means “to stay.” How does one “stay” in Jesus? Earlier, Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples” (John 8.31). In John 15.9, Jesus tells us to “Abide in My love.” How do I do that? Jesus said, “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in my love” (John 15.9). As disciples of Jesus, we live by His word. Thus, to abide in Christ is to live according to His teachings. The apostle Paul told the Christians in Ephesus that they were to live worthy of their calling (Ephesians 4.1-3). If I am a Christian then I spend my life serving Jesus with all my heart. I “abound in the work of the Lord” (I Corinthians 15.58). Is abiding in Christ a challenge for you? Our lives are so busy that many never take time to read their Bibles. When we are not continually in God’s word, Satan’s temptations are even greater. It is a challenge to stay holy when Satan is constantly striving to get us to sin. Our strength to resist temptation comes from abiding in Christ every day. If I truly love Jesus, then I will keep His commandments. I will let His words guide me day and night. Helping others and sharing the love of Christ will become a major part of who I am. Who are you today? Are you abiding in Christ?
