Blessed Assurance
Have you ever questioned deep down inside whether or not you will go to heaven? Sometimes, we let our doubts and fears overcome what we know. Why do we permit that to happen? The scriptures teach that “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power” (2 Timothy 1.7). Paul makes it clear that if one has “a spirit of fear,” it did not come from the Lord. R.C.H. Lenski suggested that this “power” is not mere courage or bravery in danger; rather it implies “power to work on, to hold out, to endure all things.” When we cling to the truth and do the Father’s will, He gives us power to stay close to Him. Do you remember Paul saying, “I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me” (2 Timothy 1.12). Paul rest assured God would keep him in His love. The apostle John said, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life” (I John 5.13). We can be confident of our salvation and that God will give us eternal life! If we will love God and keep His commandments (John 14.15), then we can be sure that “neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8.38, 39). Heaven awaits! Praise God!
