Have You Forgotten Me?
Have you ever had to face struggles, hardships, or difficulties alone? You asked others to help you, but no one was interested or seemed to care. In Psalm 13, David felt like God had forsaken him. He needed God in his life but thought God was not paying attention. His heart was filled with sorrow as he cried out, “How long, O Lord? Will you forsake me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?” Have you ever felt the same way? When burdens are heavy, and it appears no relief is in sight, do you wonder if God is even there? In verse three, the psalmist says, “Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death.” David pleads with God that he had prayed in His distress and needed God to hear and answer him. Have you ever begged God to heal you? Ever wanted God to just take you away from it all. Finally, David realized how foolish he had been in questioning God, and thus professes his faith, joy, and thankfulness. In the last two verses of the psalm David expresses his faith, “But I have trusted in your steadfast love;” his joy, “My heart shall rejoice in your salvation;” and his thankfulness, “I will sing to the LORD, because He has been dealt bountifully with me.” It is like all of the sudden, David thought, “Why am I so distressed, my God is faithful, and has always been with me.” Sometimes, we feel as if God has forgotten us; but we can rest assured that “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers” (I Peter 3.12).
