Pray For The Sick
There are so many people in our congregation who are sick at this time. What can we do? There are those who have COVID; but we cannot go near them because it is so contagious. Likewise, some are experiencing the flu; but it can be just as infectious. Others are enduring “lockdown” in their facilities in an effort to stop the spread of illness. But there is one thing we can do which is extremely helpful and effective, we can pray. James tells us, “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him” (James 5.14), and “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5.16, ESV). James says the sincere, earnest prayer of a Christian has power with God. Do you remember Peter saying, “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers” (I Peter 3.12)? God hears the heartfelt prayers of His children. At a time when our illnesses are so contagious, we want to be extremely cautious. But the best thing we can do is pray for our family members who are suffering. Do you remember the parable of the “Persistent Widow” (Luke 18.1-8)? It was the widow’s incessant pleading with the judge that finally caused the judge to give her justice. The parable teaches us to storm heaven with our prayers and never give up. Let us go to work and pray for all who are struggling at this time. Take the time to pray, because God hears our prayers!
